Teen Mental Health First Aid
One of our projects in 2019 has been to support the delivery of teen Mental Health First Aid to Year 10 in every secondary school in Byron Bay.

This evidenced based mental health education program helps make our community safer for young people
Mark Smith is an educator with expertise in the areas of Special Education, Educational Leadership and Mental Health First Aid. Mark has been working in these fields for 25 years. He is the owner operator of Safer Communities, a Mental Health Education organisation with a youth focus. Mark is on leave as the Deputy Principal of Byron Bay High School, a role he has held from 2012. Mark is a very strong advocate for inclusive and supportive educational provision.

Mark is a Director of Volunteers Building Cambodia – Australia, a registered charity in Australia that supports construction and community development programs in Cambodia. Mark is passionate about travel, and likes to ensure he leaves a positive footprint. He has been personally involved in nine house building projects with VBC.
